Every AI interview has a Settings page where you control when candidates can start, whether they can restart an unfinished attempt, and how the session is proctored. This article covers each option and where to find it.

Open the Settings Page

1

Go to the AI Interviews dashboard

Open AI Interviews from the sidebar. Each interview in the list has Invite, Preview, and Settings links.
2

Click Settings

The settings page opens for that interview. Use Preview in the header at any time to see the candidate experience in a new tab, or View Candidates to jump to results.
The layout differs slightly by interview type:
For one-way interviews, the questions themselves live in the linked template, not on the settings page. The settings page controls the job title (up to 100 characters), which template is linked, and the options described below.

Availability Window

The availability window is optional. When set, candidates can start the interview only inside this window; outside it, the interview does not accept new attempts. On conversational interviews this appears as Availability window (optional) in the Settings section. On one-way interviews the same pickers live under Timer Settings.
1

Set the start of the window

Use the Cannot Start Before date and time picker. Candidates who open their link earlier cannot begin yet.
2

Set the end of the window

Use the Cannot Start After picker. The end must be after the start, or the page shows a validation error.
3

Remove a limit if you change your mind

Click Clear date & time under either field. Leaving both fields empty means candidates can start any time.
You enter times in your own local time zone, and Equip stores them as UTC. Candidates in other time zones see the window applied correctly; no conversion math is needed on your side.

Restart Policy

The Allow resuming unfinished attempt toggle controls what happens when a candidate leaves before submitting. It is off by default.
Once a candidate submits, the attempt is final. A conversational interview cannot be resumed or retaken after submission, regardless of this toggle.
If a candidate’s browser or tab dies mid-recording, Equip keeps a short recovery grace period of 10 minutes to salvage the recording. Turning on the restart toggle is still the safer option for candidates on unreliable connections.

Proctoring Options

The Proctoring Settings section is collapsible and collapsed by default. AI interviews use the same proctoring options as Equip assessments, powered by AutoProctor. Candidates see which measures are active and consent before starting.
Switched Tab Screenshot depends on Detect Switched Tab. You cannot turn off tab detection while the screenshot option is enabled.
If you enable Record User Session, the candidate’s report gains a Session Recording tab; enabling any proctoring option adds a Proctoring tab. See AI Interview Reports for how the evidence appears.

Other Settings

A few more options live in the settings section. Some are being rolled out gradually and may not appear for every team yet.
Use candidate instructions for logistics the AI would not know: dress code for video answers, what to have on hand, or who to contact if something breaks.
