A One-Way AI Interview asks every candidate the same fixed set of questions. Candidates answer with video, audio, or text at a time that suits them, and Equip’s AI grades each response. Each candidate submission costs 1 credit for up to 20 questions, or 2 credits for 21 to 40 questions ($1 to $2).

Building from Templates

One-way interviews are built from reusable templates. A template holds your questions, answer formats, and grading rules, so you can attach the same question set to multiple job openings.
You need at least one one-way template before you can create an interview. If your team has none, Equip sends you to the templates page to create one first.

Open the AI Interviews dashboard

Go to AI Interviews, click Add AI Interview, and pick One-Way Interview.

Select a template and a job opening

Choose a one-way template, pick an existing job opening or create a new one, and click Create Interview.
Templates can be cloned, so the fastest way to build a variant for a new role is to clone a template and edit only the questions that differ.

Question Setup

Questions live in the template editor. Click Add Question to add one, or import questions from Excel if you already have them written elsewhere. A one-way interview supports two question types:
  1. AI-graded: the candidate answers in text, audio, or video, and Equip’s AI evaluates the answer.
  2. MCQ: the candidate selects the correct answer from your options.

For AI-graded questions, the Answer Format determines which response controls apply: Each question also offers an optional Evaluation Prompt (up to 100 words) that tells the AI what to weigh when grading, and a choice of response languages candidates may answer in.
You cannot add more than 40 questions to an AI Interview, and the last remaining question cannot be deleted.

Configure Interview Settings

After creation, Equip opens the interview’s Settings page. Add candidate instructions, set a start window, and configure proctoring there before you invite candidates.
The Linked Template is required. The interview cannot run without one.

Candidate Responses

Candidates see all questions at once and can answer them in any order, but the interview happens in a single session. Once a candidate submits, the AI grades every answer, and the results appear in the candidate’s report.
Credits are deducted per candidate. If an invited candidate never starts the interview, you can reclaim the credits.
