A Conversational AI Interview is a live, spoken interview where Equip’s AI interviewer asks questions in real time and adapts its follow-ups to each candidate’s answers. You do not write the questions yourself. Paste a job description, and Equip drafts the interview topics for you.

Creating from a Job Description

Start from the AI Interviews dashboard and let Equip’s AI do the heavy lifting.

Open the creation page

Go to AI Interviews in your dashboard and click Add AI Interview, then choose Conversational Interview.

Pick the interview type

Select either the Quick Interview or Comprehensive Interview card. This choice sets the interview’s length, question limits, and credit cost (see the comparison below).

Paste the job description

Fill in the Job description field (up to 7,500 characters). Keep it focused on the role and the key skills; the AI drafts interview topics directly from this text.

Link a job opening

Under Job opening, either pick an existing job opening from the dropdown or create a new one by entering a Job opening title (for example, “Senior Frontend Developer”).

Set years of experience

Enter the minimum Years of experience, and optionally a maximum. If you selected an existing job opening, this range is pre-populated from it and locked.

Add extra context (optional)

Use Additional context (up to 1,000 characters) to call out specific focus areas, skills to emphasize, or special requirements.

Generate the interview

Click Generate interview topics. Equip’s AI drafts the topics, each with evaluation criteria, a follow-up count, and a difficulty level, and takes you straight to the interview’s Settings page.
Generated topics arrive with a difficulty of Medium, Hard, or Expert. You can review, edit, reorder, or delete every generated item before inviting candidates; see Questions, Topics, and Scenarios.

Quick vs Comprehensive

The interview type you pick in the first step controls how deep the interview goes and how many credits each candidate submission costs. You can change the type later on the interview’s settings page. Switching from Comprehensive to Quick is blocked if the interview already has more questions than Quick allows (maximum 10); remove some questions first, then switch.
Credits are deducted when a candidate is invited to the interview. If a candidate never starts, you can reclaim the credits; see How Credits Work.

Instructions for the AI Interviewer

Beyond the topics themselves, you can steer how the AI conducts the interview. On the interview’s settings page, the Instructions for AI Interviewer field accepts free-text guidance of up to 4,000 characters. Use it to shape tone, pacing, and evaluation style. For example:
  • “Start with easier questions, and then make them harder.”
  • “Score higher if they use simpler words.”
These instructions guide the AI’s behavior across the whole interview. For per-question control, edit the individual items and their difficulty and follow-up settings instead.
After generation, finish configuring the interview on its Settings page: review the topics, set the interview language, add candidate instructions, and choose proctoring options. See Interview Settings for every option.
