How AI Proctoring Works
When a candidate starts a test, Equip gains access to their camera feed, microphone feed, and device screen, depending on which measures you enabled. The AI monitors these feeds continuously for the entire test. Candidates always see exactly which proctoring measures are active before they begin. They must consent to the monitoring, and to the proctoring report being shared with you, before the test starts. When the test ends, Equip generates a proctoring report for that attempt. It includes a Trust Score and every detected violation with its timestamp and supporting evidence, such as a photo, screenshot, or audio recording. You can experience most of these measures yourself through Equip’s self-serve proctoring demo. No login is needed.Proctoring keeps working even if the candidate goes offline. Evidence is captured on the device and synced back to Equip when the connection returns, so a dropped internet connection does not create a blind spot.
What Gets Tracked

These settings make it harder for candidates to share answers with each other. They are configured as anti-cheating settings and quiz options rather than proctoring toggles.- Shuffle question order: the same question appears at a different position for each candidate.
- Randomize MCQ options: answer choices appear in a different order for each candidate.
- Shuffle coding questions: different candidates receive different programming questions.
- Question banks: each candidate gets a random draw of questions matched by difficulty.
- Question display mode: show questions one-by-one with per-question timers, or all at once.
Advanced AI proctoring
Device fingerprinting, IP recording, multi-session detection, and offline evidence capture run on every attempt, at no extra cost.
Preventing ChatGPT and AI Tool Usage
The easiest way to cheat is to copy a question into a tool like ChatGPT. Equip’s measures layer on top of each other to close that path. With copy-paste disabled, the candidate cannot move the question text out of the test. If they screenshot the question and open another tab instead, they break full-screen mode and trigger tab-switch detection, both of which are flagged with evidence. Some tools evade regular proctoring entirely: on-screen overlay assistants such as Cluely or InterviewCoder, or simply an AI app on a second phone while the candidate keeps looking at the computer. Auxiliary Device proctoring catches both. The paired phone camera watches the candidate’s hands, keyboard, and computer screen, so any AI tool in use becomes visible.Reviewing Evidence
Every completed attempt gets a Trust Score from 0 to 100%, shown at the top of the candidate’s report. The lower the score, the more likely Equip thinks the candidate cheated, so you can focus your review on low-scoring candidates instead of checking everyone.1
Open the candidate's report
From the results page, open the candidate. The report has three tabs: Test Summary, Proctoring, and Session Recording.

Check the Trust Score
If the score is below about 80%, review the full proctoring report rather than relying on the number alone.

Review the violations
The Proctoring tab lists each violation with its timestamp and evidence: photos, tab-switch screenshots, and audio recordings.

Watch the Session Recording
If Session Recording was enabled, play back the candidate’s screen activity to see exactly what happened. Playback supports faster speeds and skipping inactive sections.
