Before your first real test, Equip shows you a Demo Tests page. Each demo is free, takes about a minute, and does not count towards your score. It lets you confirm that your device works with the exact test types you are about to attempt.

Why Take a Demo Test

A demo test is a short, low-stakes rehearsal of the real thing. It uses the same interface as the actual test, so nothing on the real test should surprise you. Demo tests help you in two ways: Your assessment may include several test types, so the demo covers the specific test types you will face. If a demo loads and runs on your device, the matching real test will too.
Candidates who attempt demo tests tend to score higher on their assessments. A minute of practice is almost always worth it.

Starting a Demo

You do not need to hunt for demo tests. Equip automatically redirects you to the Demo Tests page before your first real test, unless you have already attempted or skipped the demos.

Open your assessment link

Sign in as usual. After the instructions page, Equip takes you to the Demo Tests page before test 1.

Pick a demo test

The page lists a demo for each test type in your assessment, under Your Demo Tests Status. Demos you have already attempted show a checkmark.

Complete the demo

Grant any camera, microphone, or screen permissions when prompted, then answer the practice questions. Each demo takes about a minute.

Continue to the assessment

Once you are comfortable, proceed to the real tests. Your demo answers are not graded and are never shown to the recruiter as results.
While a demo is running, a banner reads Not Actual Assessment - Just Demo Tests. If you see that banner, nothing you do affects your score.
If a demo fails to load, fix the problem before starting the real test: check your webcam and microphone, try an incognito window, switch to Google Chrome, or move to another device. See Candidate Issues for the full troubleshooting ladder.

Skipping

Demo tests are optional. Use the Skip to Assessment button at the bottom of the Demo Tests page to go straight to your first real test. Skipping makes sense when:
  • You have already attempted the demos, for example on a previous visit. The page itself notes that you may skip demo tests if you have already attempted them.
  • You have taken Equip assessments before on the same device and browser.
Do not confuse finishing a demo with finishing the assessment. A common reason a candidate believes they submitted but the recruiter sees no result is that they completed only the demo test. The real assessment is finished only when you see the Assessment Completed screen.
