ChatGPT, AI usage detection
tl;dr: Candidates pair their phones with their computer when they start the test. The phone's camera tracks their keyboard, fingers and screen they are looking at. If they are using AI tools on another phone or through a software on their computer, we detect it.
Proctoring with an Auxiliary Device
This is an enhanced proctoring option along with the default proctoring settings for an assessment. It detects the usage of AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Interview Coder) by the candidates while taking the test.
When enabled, candidate pairs an auxiliary device (phone) with their computer as they attempt the test. So, you can see their hands, keyboard and screen throughout the test.
How to enable
- Create an assessment or open an existing one
- Go to the Test Order tab
- Enable the Aux Device option
- Click Update to save your changes for an existing assessment. For a new assessment, click Next and then Create to save your Settings.
What must the candidates do?
- Candidate clicks on the test link
- If they are on a phone, they are asked to open the test on a computer or laptop first
- They are shown a QR code that they must scan on their phone
- Once they scan the code, the computer and phone are paired
- They must scan their surroundings on the phone and a video of that is uploaded for you to review later
- They must place the phone in such a way that the camera feed shows the keyboard
- We take a screenshot of this feed every few seconds
- The proctoring on the laptop continues as usual
At the end of the test, you see the regular proctoring report from the laptop, and also the video and the keyboard screenshots gathered from the phone. A sample report can be found here.
FAQs
- If I enable aux device proctoring, can candidates who don't have phones skip it?
No. If you've enabled aux device proctoring on any test, candidates will have to pair their phones to attempt the test. Else, the questions won't load.
- What if the candidate's phone screen locks during the test?
On supported phone browsers, we ensure that the phone stays awake throughout the test. If this doesn't work and the phone gets locked, we inform the candidate on the computer that their phone camera feed isn't active and they must fix it.
- Does enabling aux device proctoring cost extra?
No. It is completely free. It is just disabled by default.
