Equip’s Programming Tests run in a browser-based code editor and are graded automatically. This page lists every language available by default, explains how the coding environment works, and shows how to get additional languages enabled for your account.

Supported Languages

Equip supports the following languages out of the box and has ready-made programming questions for each. Every language runs on a fixed version, listed alongside.
Beyond Programming Tests, Equip also offers dedicated SQL and CSS coding challenges. See Test Types for the full list of what you can add to an assessment.

The Coding Environment

Candidates write, run, and submit their code in an in-browser editor. There is nothing to install, and submissions are auto-evaluated against test cases, so scores appear in your results without manual grading. A few things to know when adding a coding test to an assessment:
  • Each Programming Test contains one question. To test more, add multiple programming tests to the assessment, or randomize coding questions so each candidate gets one question from a pool.
  • You choose which languages are enabled for each test, and the builder requires at least one. Candidates then pick any enabled language to solve the question.
  • Equip’s coding questions come in three difficulty levels: Medium, Hard, and Expert, matched to the years of experience you select for the role.
  • Unlike Equip’s quizzes, you can select the exact coding question during setup and see it later in candidate results.
Programming, SQL, and CSS tests are desktop only. Candidates on phones or tablets see a “Desktop Only” badge and must switch to a computer to attempt these tests.
If you build your own custom programming test, you also control the enabled languages, the starter boilerplate code for each language, and the sample and real test cases.

Requesting Additional Languages

If the language you need is not in the table above, Equip can enable more languages for your account on request.
1

Create your Equip account

Additional languages are enabled per account, so sign up first if you have not already.
2

Reach out on live chat

Open the chat widget in your Recruiter Dashboard and tell us which language you need. You can also email hello@equip.co.
3

We enable it for you

Once enabled, the language appears in your language options when creating or editing a programming test.
Need a whole test or skill that Equip does not offer yet, not just a language? See Can’t Find Your Role or Skill? for how Equip builds new content on request.
