Equip’s AI interviews are not limited to English. A conversational interview can run entirely in the language you choose: the AI interviewer speaks, listens, and asks follow-ups in that language. One-way interviews work differently: you control which languages candidates may use in their responses, question by question.

Supported Languages

For conversational interviews, the Interview Language setting controls the entire session. The dropdown offers 15 options:
Where a language has regional variants, pick the one closest to your candidate pool. The AI’s speech recognition and voice adapt to the variant you choose, so it matches how your candidates actually speak.
The interview language is a recruiter setting. Candidates do not pick a language themselves in an interview; the AI conducts the session in the language you chose.

Conversational interviews

Open the interview's settings

Go to AI Interviews dashboard from the sidebar and click Settings on the conversational interview you want to configure.

Find the Interview Language dropdown

On the settings page, locate the Interview Language dropdown.

Select a language

Choose from the 15 options listed above. The AI interviewer will speak, understand, and transcribe in that language for every candidate who takes this interview.
If no language is selected, the interview runs in English (US) by default.

One-way interviews

One-way interviews use pre-set questions with recorded answers, so there is no live AI voice to configure. Instead, language works at two separate levels: the language your questions are written in, and the language candidates may respond in.

Question Language (Multilingual Questions)

By default, a one-way template’s questions are written in a single language. To offer the same question in multiple languages, enable Multilingual Questions on the template.

Open the template's settings

Go to AI Interviews in the sidebar, open One-Way Templates, and click Settings on the template you want to configure.

Scroll to Alternative Languages

Scroll down to the Alternative Languages section and turn on Enable Multilingual Questions.

Set the default and additional languages

Choose a Default Language, then add one or more Additional Languages.
Enabling an additional language does not translate your questions automatically. You must write the question text in every language you enable, or candidates who pick that language see a blank or incomplete question.

Response Language

Separate from the question’s language, each question also has its own Response Language selector, offering around 100 languages, which controls the language candidates may answer in.

Open One-Way Templates.

Open the template itself

Click the one-way interview template, not its Settings, to open the template editor.

Set the Response Language per question

On each question, use the Response Language field (Max 3) to add one or more languages candidates may answer in. The default is English.
The candidate’s transcription is always in whichever language they spoke, but the AI evaluates their answer based on the response language you selected for that question.

How the settings compare

Set the language before inviting candidates, and keep your topics and questions written in that same language. A mismatch between the interview language and the language of your questions can confuse both candidates and the AI.
