# Disabling Camera and Mic Tracking

> Turn off camera and microphone proctoring on any test when you don't need it.

  tl;dr: Camera and mic tracking can be turned off on **any test**, whether it uses Equip's content or your own.

## When to Disable

All assessments on Equip are proctored by **AI Proctoring** to ensure candidates do not cheat. Depending on your settings, proctoring can track the camera, microphone, and screen, disable copy-paste, and enforce full-screen mode.

Camera and mic tracking is not always necessary. Common reasons to switch it off:

* **Low-stakes screens**: an early-funnel quiz where you care more about completion rates than cheating.
* **Personality-style tests**: there is no "correct" answer to protect. Equip's **Psychometric** tests already keep camera and mic tracking off by default.
* **Video response tests**: you see and hear the candidate in their answers anyway, so separate camera tracking adds little. These tests also keep the camera options off by default.
* **Candidate comfort or privacy**: some candidates are uneasy granting camera access, and some organizations prefer to minimize data collection.

## How to Disable

Four proctoring settings involve the camera or microphone: **Detect Audio**, **Detect Face**, **Take Random Photos**, and **Capture Photo Before Start Test**. Turn these off on any test to stop camera and mic tracking.

    From your dashboard, open the assessment and go to its settings, then select the **Test Order** tab.

    Click **Edit Settings** on the test you want to change. The panel lists all proctoring toggles, with **Enable All** and **Disable All** shortcuts.

    Switch off **Detect Audio**, **Detect Face**, **Take Random Photos**, and **Capture Photo Before Start Test**.

    Click **Save Settings**, then **Update** to apply the changes to the assessment.

  These settings apply per test, not per assessment. If your assessment has multiple tests, repeat the steps for each test where you want camera and mic tracking off.

## Impact on the Proctoring Report

Candidates always see exactly which proctoring measures are active before they start, and they consent to the report being shared with you. With camera and mic tracking off, the permission prompts for those devices disappear from their flow.

Your side of the report changes too. The **Proctoring** tab of the candidate report will not contain face-detection photos, random photos, a pre-test photo, or audio recordings for that test, because that evidence is never captured.

Everything else you left enabled keeps working:

* Screen-based measures such as **Detect Switched Tab**, **Enforce Full Screen**, and **Record User Session** still capture evidence as configured.
* Always-on measures still run on every attempt: device fingerprinting, IP recording with location lookup, and multi-session detection.

  The report still shows a **Trust Score** for the attempt. With fewer signals being tracked, review the score together with the remaining evidence rather than in isolation.
